Marbelly Miranda Walker, M.D. of Houston earned her medical degree, with a specialty in pathology, from La Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Nicaragua, in Managua. She has worked in the breast cancer field for the past seven years and is a member of the education committee for the Komen Houston Affiliate and a volunteer for the Hispanic support group, Las Rosas Vivas. In 2004, Walker was the recipient of the DOVE Healthcare Service award from Glamour en Espanol. She is a board member of the Hispanic Health Coalition in Houston and also a member of the AstraZeneca National Hispanic/Latina Advisory Breast Cancer Committee. Walker is a graduate of two rigorous training programs for breast cancer advocates: the National Breast Cancer Coalition's Project LEAD, and its Clinical Trials advocate training program. Walker currently works as Latina program coordinator of the Texas Gulf Coast Affiliate for Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. Among the programs she coordinates are those focusing on breast cancer outreach, education and screenings for uninsured and medically underserved Latinas, and support for breast cancer patients. |
