Malcolm Bordelon enters his 13th season with the San Jose Sharks, his 11th as executive vice president of business operations, having been promoted to the post by President and CEO Greg Jamison on March 15, 1996. Bordelon previously served as vice president, broadcast and media marketing since joining the club in July 1994. Bordelon, 48, oversees the following departments: Broadcasting; Corporate Partnerships; Marketing; Event Presentation; Ticket Sales and Service; Suite Sales and Hospitality and Communications, which includes Fan Development, Internet Services, Media Relations, as well as SVS&E Merchandising and SVS&E Publishing. He also oversees the SAP Open (ATP circuit) and San Jose Stealth (NLL). In addition to overseeing the business operations of the Sharks, Bordelon has played a key role in developing and is also responsible for managing Silicon Valley Sports & Entertainment. SVS&E was created to manage all or parts of the business operations for the Sharks, SAP Open (ATP Circuit), San Jose Stealth (NLL), SVS&E Merchandise and SVS&E Publishing and other events and properties. As a member of Senior Management, Bordelon is also involved in review and pursuit of new business opportunities for SVS&E. Bordelon is the franchise contact for a number of National Hockey League sponsorship, broadcasting and other business-related issues. In that capacity, he served as the team's primary contact and coordinator with the NHL for the 1997 All-Star Game.as the Sharks and the City of San Jose hosted one of the most successful mid-season classic ever conducted. Bordelon worked closely with NIKE and the NHL to develop and coordinate the launch of the Sharks new uniform for the 1998-99 season as well as the NHL and CCM involvement in developing the third jersey program in 2001-02. He also worked with the NHL as the club's main liaison for the Sharks two-game series vs. the Calgary Flames in GAME ONe Japan, the NHL's kick-off weekend to the 1998-99 season in Tokyo. Bordelon has remained actively involved with many of the Sharks fan-related initiatives throughout his tenure with the organization. Under his guidance, the team has amassed a programming platform that includes a street hockey program (Sharks & Parks) which transcends the San Jose geography, a mobile street hockey experience (Mobile Shark Tank) which fills a community need for fun, interactive and safe hockey experiences, a wildly successful fan club for children (FINatical Kids Club) and the chance for minor hockey players to skate at HP Pavilion during intermissions of selected Sharks home games (Future Sharks) amongst others. The Sharks have also made significant gains in sponsor partnerships under Bordelon's direction, including the naming of HP Pavilion at San Jose’s club level as the Comerica Bank Club. Since he joined the organization, numerous Bay Area high-tech companies have made their first forays into sports sponsorship with the Sharks and other SVS&E properties. Bordelon was named to the initial steering committee of the San Francisco Chapter of the National Sports Marketing Network, an industry trade organization for sports business professionals. Bordelon also currently serves on the board of the San Jose Downtown Foundation and also served as the San Jose Downtown Association president in 1998 and 1999 and remains an active board member. He is also a member of the San Jose Convention and Visitors Bureau and a member of the SJCVB Marketing Committee. Bordelon is a member of class XVIII in the American Leadership Forum-Silicon Valley, a nonprofit organization dedicated to building a better Silicon Valley community by joining and strengthening leaders to serve the public good. Bordelon joined the Sharks after spending six years as director of sponsorship sales and promotions with the Indiana Pacers. With the Pacers, Bordelon's department experienced record growth in sponsorship income and an outstanding record of renewal business. Previously, he spent seven years within the advertising industry, including stints in media sales with Carlisle Outdoor Advertising and advertising agencies Ogilvy & Mather and Cunningham & Walsh, claiming numerous national and local awards and citations for outstanding creative and professional achievement. A native of Houston, Texas, he graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in advertising. Upon his graduation, he was named the American Advertising Federation Outstanding Advertising Student and the Texas Tech School of Mass Communications Most Outstanding Student. In addition, on Oct. 16, 1999, Bordelon was awarded the "Outstanding Alumni of the School of Mass Communications" during Texas Tech's homecoming festivities.
