Magdalena Bell, JD, of Washington, D.C., is a federal prosecutor in the homicide unit of the United States Attorney's Office. A single mother with two teenage daughters, she is also a five-year breast cancer survivor. The discovery of a malignant lump in her right breast during a routine physical at the age of forty was a shock. She credits good overall health with her ability to recover quickly from a mastectomy and aggressive chemotherapy. Her familiarity with Hispanic culture and the obstacles that often prevent Hispanic and Latina women from seeking the health care and information they need, spurred Magdalena's desire to make a difference for Hispanic women. She hopes that through her efforts with the Komen Foundation, her daughters and the generations of women who follow will never have to experience the pain of breast cancer. |
