After her graduation in Mathematics from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad and a year of working in an NGO, Madhabi joined ICICI in its corporate finance department for four years. After a career break of three years to join her husband in the UK, she returned to India to do a one year stint with ORG Marg in market research for financial products.
In 1997, she returned to ICICI Bank and has since donned several hats. Building the brand into one of India’s leading financial brands, structuring investment options to make ICICI the Number 1 bond issuer in the country, creating a nationwide sales network that made ICICI Bank the leader in mutual fund distribution and leveraging technology to create the pioneering online share trading site with an enviable market share of over 60%. All this in quick succession. Next came managing the home loans business which in a single year grew four-fold to catch up with the market leader and transaction banking which has since earned various domestic and international awards.
Customer Service Delivery came next, covering branch operations across the country, as well as the 4,000 strong call-centre of the Bank, and its 2000 plus ATM network.
Madhabi then headed up the Operations function of the bank : retail, corporate, rural and international servicing over 15 million customers and over a billion transactions a year. She also took over as the Group Chief Brand Officer for the ICICI Group.
Madhabi is now an Executive Director on the Board of ICICI Bank. She will be responsible for the Internal Control Environment function of the bank globally, including operations, risk management and legal, as well as the corporate brand.
