Powers started her career in the executive training program at J.C. Penney and then served as senior vice president for strategic planning, marketing and merchandise at Millers Outpost, a casual clothing store chain. In that position she worked in merchandising marketing but also sourced product, gaining international experience traveling around the world a couple times a year. During her time at Millers, she helped grow the company from a 24-store operation into a 335-store chain. Its revenues rose from $35 million to $575 million in that period.
Later, Powers formed her own company LaScelta, a natural fiber clothing importer, that she operated for three years in southern California. A native of southern California, she completed undergraduate work at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tex., and at California State University in Fullerton, Calif. While she was working at Millers, she also earned an MBA degree at Pepperdine University as part of the school’s Presidential Key Executive Program designed for leaders already serving in high levels in the business world. |
