As vice president of corporate strategic planning at Scientific Atlanta, Luis Avila--Marco's primary responsibilities are to assist the CEO and the Corporate Management Committee in formulating the company’s strategy and to be a key adviser to worldwide customers by helping them understand how broadband solutions will create competitive advantage in the Entertainment, Media and Telecommunications industries. He reports directly to Chairman, President and CEO Jim McDonald.
Before his present position, he was responsible for worldwide market management. His primary responsibilities included regional business strategy, business development and strategic account management. He also participated in the development and marketing of optoelectronic systems as part of Scientific Atlanta’s end-to-end broadband communications system solutions. He also served in a variety of engineering roles. Prior to joining Scientific Atlanta in 1994, Avila-Marco spent several years in various positions in the cable industry.
Avila-Marco holds a Bachelor’s degree in telecommunications engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Spain), a M.B.A. from Emory University and has coursed postgraduate studies at Harvard on Corporate Strategy, M.I.T. on Digital Networks and at Kellogg on Business Administration.
He is an active member of CTAM, the Marketing Society for the Cable and Telecommunications Industry; a member of the AMA, the American Marketing Association; a member of the SCTE, the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers; a member of the IEEE, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and a frequent speaker in industry tradeshows and conferences. |
