Ludvig M. Sollid, M.D., Ph.D. is a Professor of Medicine (Immunology) at the University of Oslo and a consultant at the Rikshospitalet-Radiumhospitalet Medical Center. He received his medical and doctorate degrees at the University of Oslo in 1992, and has been on the faculty since then. He is an internationally recognized authority on celiac sprue, and has authored over 100 scientific publications on the subject. His research group has made important contributions to the understanding of the molecular basis of celiac sprue, in particular the association between the HLA-DQ2 genes and celiac sprue (1989), the existence of gluten reactive (HLA-DQ2 restricted) T cells in the celiac intestinal lesion (1993), and role of the primary auto-antigen, tissue transglutaminase, in celiac sprue (1998). He has been recognized for his scientific contributions by numerous awards, and serves on the Editorial Boards of a several medical journals. His current interests lie in the immunogenetics and immunopathogenesis of celiac sprue. |
