Lucian Dervan represents management in all areas of employment and labor law. He counsels and represents clients in federal and state court and before local, state, and federal government agencies. Lucian also provides day-to-day counseling and advice on all aspects of the employment relationship including discrimination, harassment, violence in the workplace, and discipline and discharge. Along with traditional employment matters, he counsels and represents government contractors, healthcare organizations, and other employers in internal and government investigations with regard to potential criminal or other improper conduct by employees, qui tam and other whistleblower litigation, and compliance reviews. He also represents corporations in appeals in state and federal court.
Prior to joining the firm, Lucian was an associate with King & Spalding as a member of the Special Matters and Government Investigations team. In this capacity, he represented corporations, launched internal investigations, prepared for trials of corporations and employees, and handled various types of complex litigation. This work included representing corporations during qui tam whistleblower actions, government and internal investigations, and compliance reviews.
From 2006 to 2007, Lucian served as a law clerk to the Honorable Phyllis A. Kravitch of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Lucian attended Emory University School of Law where he was an Emory Scholar and served as an Articles Editor for the Emory Law Journal. He is a member of the Order of the Coif, the American Inn of Court, Omicron Delta Kappa national leadership society, and the Coverdell Leadership Institute. His pro bono activities have included work with Legal Aid, Habitat for Humanity, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Lucian has published articles on internal investigations, employee interviews, attorney-client privilege, criminal law, constitutional law, and legal history in journals such as the Emory Law Journal, Oklahoma Law Review, Journal of Southern Legal History, Wall Street Lawyer, Metropolitan Corporate Counsel, and the ALAS Loss Prevention Journal.
