Lonn W. Myers is counsel in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, resident in its Chicago office. He is a member of the Tax Department. Lonn focuses his practice in the areas of business tax planning, tax-exempt bond financing and tax controversies. He has substantial experience in tax aspects of tax-exempt bond financing (including post issuance compliance issues and bondholder tax issues), leasing and depreciation matters, cross border financing transactions (including dual consolidated loss issues) and organization, reorganization, acquisition, disposition and liquidation of corporations and pass-through entities.
Lonn is a member of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, serving on the Committee on Tax Exempt Financing and the Committee on Capital Recovery and Leasing. He is also a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the Association for Governmental Leasing & Finance, the bar of the State of Illinois, the U.S. Tax Court and the U.S. Claims Court. He is also a certified public accountant.
Representative Experience
Representing U.S.- based manufacturers of capital and consumer nondurable goods in federal tax audits involving capitalization, depreciation, tax accounting, debt financing, dual consolidated loss and cross-border transaction issues
Advising U.S. financial companies on tax issues involving operating and finance leases
Developing the tax structure for participating bond transactions for tax-exempt hospitals, including contingent interest and accrual bonds
Structuring cross-border finance leases of U.S.-based heavy manufacturing equipment
Advising U.S. corporations on structured finance transactions with Australian and New Zealand financial institutions
