Mr. Semple practiced general corporate and healthcare law, including acquisitions, divestitures, mergers and financings with Dykema for more than forty years. He served as outside counsel for several Michigan-based business enterprises, primarily in the health care and automotive industries, and as securities and bond counsel for several Michigan-based health care institutions. Most recently he has also advised boards of directors of public and not for profit companies (and special committees thereof) in recapitalization transactions and governance matters. Mr. Semple retired from the Firm in July of 2004 although he remains affiliated with the title of Chairman Emeritus. In August of 2004 he joined the full time faculty of University of Detroit Mercy School of Law as a visiting professor where he is teaching courses on Corporate Law, Corporate Governance and Directors' responsibilities and liabilities.
Mr. Semple was Chairman and CEO of Dykema from September, 1995 through April, 2002. Prior to that time he had served for many years on the Executive Committee and as the Firm's Corporate Finance Practice Group Leader. He has also served as a director and officer of several of Michigan's prominent public and closely held businesses. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Argon ST (NASDAQ).
Mr. Semple has been active in politics and has considerable experience in dealing with governmental agencies and regulators. From 1997 through 2001 Mr. Semple, as Chairman of the Board of The Detroit Medical Center, directed and was responsible for the reorganization and financial turn-around of one of the country's largest health care systems. |
