Lisa Carlson has been MeritCare's chief financial officer since 2003. Carlson began her career at MeritCare in 1987 as the Controller for the Fargo Clinic and has worked in various financial positions prior to becoming MeritCare's CFO. Her responsibilities as the Chief Financial Officer are to provide system-wide leadership and direction for the development and control of financial strategies for MeritCare Health System and its subsidiaries. This also includes oversight of accounting, insurance, cash and debt management, payroll and physician compensation and revenue management. She is also responsible for reimbursement and contracting, billing compliance, internal audit, business analysis and budgeting. Her favorite things about her position are the diverse challenges in financial management of this complex organization as well as the opportunity to work with a great variety of talented, dedicated staff.
Carlson was born in Detroit Lakes, Minn. and was raised in Barnesville, Minn. She graduated from Minnesota State University Moorhead, receiving degrees in accounting and corporate finance and is a Certified Public Accountant. Being raised and educated in MeritCare's primary service area, Carlson is committed to MeritCare's mission and dedicated to making a difference to the people we serve as well as the economic impact of MeritCare on the entire service area.
Carlson participates in a variety of professional activities including the North Dakota Healthcare Association, The Healthcare Financial Management Association and the North Dakota Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is a Director of Union State Bank and active in fundraising and music at Atonement Lutheran Church. Carlson and her husband, Phil, have three sons and one daughter-in-law. They enjoy church, music and sports. |
