Current Position
Linn Williams joined Mirant in 2005 as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. In this role, he leads the legal team with the mission of protecting and enhancing the company’s assets and reputation while facilitating execution of the business plan. He also oversees the company’s legislative and regulatory affairs activities including all policy matters related to these areas. As Chief Compliance Officer, he is responsible for the design and operation of Mirant’s legal compliance and ethics program.
Career before Mirant
2001-2005: Served as an International Chamber of Commerce arbitrator and as a member of several boards of not-for-profit organizations, consulted on overseas investments, lectured on U.S. economic and foreign policy and wrote on U.S. trade policy.
1998-2000: Chief Executive Officer of the European Division of Edison Mission Energy, a global competitive power company.
1994-1998: Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Edison Mission Energy.
1992-1994: Practiced corporate law in Washington, D.C., as a partner at Jones Day and Gibson Dunn & Crutcher.
1989-1991: Served the George H.W. Bush administration as Deputy U.S. Trade Representative, appointed by the President with the rank of Ambassador and confirmed by the Senate. In this role, he chaired the Trade Policy Review Committee of 11 departments and agencies and led many of the country’s trade negotiations.
1985-1989: Practiced corporate law in Washington, D.C., and Tokyo as a partner at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher.
1984-1985: Vice President and General Counsel of Sears World Trade, a trading subsidiary of Sears Roebuck.
1981-1984: Vice President and General Counsel of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, appointed during the first Ronald Reagan administration. While serving in this role, he received the agency’s highest merit award.
1974-1981: Practiced corporate law in Washington, D.C., and Tokyo as an associate and partner at Leva Hawes Symington Martin & Oppenheimer and as a legal intern at Blakemore & Misuki.
1971-1972: Clerked on the Fifth Circuit for Judge Irving L. Golberg.
