As vice president and chief of staff, Lindsay D. Stewart is responsible for examining Nike’s overall business to make sure it is operating efficiently. He works with the Board of Directors on a wide range of issues, and acts as a utility infielder by providing counsel at the executive level on issues that do not fit elsewhere. Lindsay also examines legal and government issues in Nike’s Legal and Government Affairs Department. He works together with Nike brand co-presidents Mark Parker and Charlie Denson to coach senior leaders in Finance, Human Resources, Operations and Communications. And he is involved with the Compensation Committee, corporate governance and management of funds for benefit plans. Before joining Nike, Lindsay had his own private law practice. He also served as corporate counsel to George-Pacific Corporation. Outside of Nike, Lindsay serves on the Oregon State International Trade Commission. He enjoys playing tennis with his wife, golfing and running. Perspectives:Lindsay said the coolest thing about working at Nike is the people and the energy they exude, which keep him on his toes and thinking broadly. Nike is so much more than a 9-to-5 job, he said. It’s an atmosphere that empowers you and makes you feel like you’ve accomplished something every day.
