Linda comes to SMARTHINKING with over 11 years of experience teaching general and organic chemistry to undergraduates. After achieving tenure at Salisbury State University (now Salisbury University) on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, she moved to Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. In addition to lecture and laboratory for general and organic chemistry, Linda has developed and taught advanced topics courses in physical organic chemistry, and science & ethics, as well as chemistry for non-science majors and college-level preparatory/remedial chemistry. In 2004, Linda relocated to Lawrence, Kansas, where she pursues a successful freelance career. She is a technology consultant, author and media developer for a leading textbook publisher, and has consulted for science/education organizations such as NASA and the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence. Linda graduated cum laude with Honors in Chemistry from Bryn Mawr College, and then earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Yale University. Her graduate work involved the characterization of pyrrole-based disjoint biradicals. Later, in addition to her own research interests in photochromic compounds, she and her undergraduate research students worked for several years on formulation and calibration of a colorimetric passive ozone monitoring system with colleagues at NASA. |
