Dr. Linda Buck is a Nobel Prize winning scientist, affiliate professor of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington, Associate Director of the Basic Science Division of the Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, and a full investigator for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She also serves as a Director of deCode Genetics, Inc., a NASDAQ-listed biopharmaceutical company operating in the US and Iceland.
Dr. Buck joined IFF’s Board in 2007. Prior to the University of Washington, Dr. Buck was a professor in the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School. In 2003, she was elected to the National Academy of Sciences. She and her research partner received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2004 for their discoveries regarding the olfactory system. Their discovery enabled scientists to employ modern molecule and cell biology techniques to explore how the brain discriminates among odors. |
