Dr. Lewis Sanborne consults for Noel-Levitz from his position as dean of the College for Professional Studies at St. Ambrose University (IA). He is co-coordinator of strategic planning, works closely with the Assessment Task Force, and is on the university’s self-study steering committee for their upcoming 10-year accreditation visit. Dr. Sanborne has played a key role in retention at St. Ambrose since 1990. Previously, he served as associate vice president for enrollment and director of institutional research. He was also coordinator of student success programs, including the tutorial program; a learning center supporting first- and second-year courses; orientation; advising; and the first-year experience program. As an adjunct assistant professor of English at the university, Dr. Sanborne has trained and supervised writing tutors on campus.
His efforts helped St. Ambrose increase first- to second-year retention from 71.5 percent in 1993 to 79.5 percent in 2000. For the last four years, undergraduate persistence has been above 92 percent for fall to spring, and more than 85 percent for spring to fall.
Associations and education: Dr. Sanborne is a member of the Association for Institutional Research (AIR), American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), and the National Academic Advisors Association (NACADA). He holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Illinois State University. |
