Leslie A. Thomsen, a member of our public law group, is of counsel to the firm and works with clients from our Santa Rosa office.Leslie has been practicing law for more than twenty years, and has worked for many North Bay cities, special districts and private clients on matters involving environmental regulation, CEQA, land use, zoning and planning issues, appeals, writs and other litigation. In particular, she has experience with the California Environmental Quality Act, the Subdivision Map Act and other state and federal regulatory laws.She also worked extensively with the city attorney for the cities of Petaluma and Larkspur, providing advice on a wide range of municipal law matters. Leslie has defended a variety of claims against public entities in areas including land use, environmental law and torts in both state and federal courts.Most recently Leslie was a contract attorney with a local firm where she concentrated on real property matters, including environmental and land use, construction and commercial contracts and real estate broker liability.From 2001 through 2004, on an informal sabbatical from law firm practice, Leslie served as counsel to a member of the U.S. House of Representatives Energy & Commerce Committee in Washington, D.C. While there, she advised on energy, natural resources, environmental and tribal issues and also managed media relations and communications policy as the congressman's press secretary. She later served as communications director for the National Breast Cancer Coalition, also in Washington.She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1982. At Hastings, Leslie served on the Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly and participated in the Hastings Civil Justice Clinic. Leslie is a member of the Environmental Law Section of the California State Bar. |
