Dr. Benet is Professor of Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Chemistry at University of California, San Francisco and a world renowned expert in Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacogenetics of metabolic enzymes and drug transporters. He has published more than 460 scientific papers and is listed among the 250 most cited pharmacologists worldwide. Professor Benet received his BS (Pharmacy), and MSc from the University of Michigan and PhD from the University of California. He has received five honorary doctorates. He was a founder and editor of the Journal of Pharmacokinetics & Biopharmaceutics and is presently a member of the editorial boards of five scientific journals.
Professor Benet was a founder and first president of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS). In 1987, he was elected to membership in the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences. In 1993-94, Professor Benet served as President of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. He formerly served as Chair of the Pharmacology Study Section and the Pharmacological Sciences Review Committee for the NIH, the FDA Center of Biologics Peer Review Committee, the FDA Expert Panel on Individual Bioequivalence and the Board of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), and as a member of the FDA Science Board and Generic Drugs Advisory Committee. Professor Benet presently serves as a member of the IOM’s Forum on Drug Discovery, Development and Translation as well as its Board of Health Sciences Policy. |
