Leroy Hood is President and Director of the Institute for Systems Biology in Seattle, Washington. He began his professional career at the California Institute of Technology, where he and colleagues pioneered four instruments that form the technological basis of contemporary molecular biology. He created the multi-disciplinary Department of Molecular Biotechnology at the University of Washington. He has played a role in founding several biotechnology companies, including Amgen, Applied Biosystems, SyStemix, Darwin, and Rosetta. He received the Lasker Award in 1987 and is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, and the American Association of Arts and Sciences. |
