Leonard Basobas, MS (DePaul University, 1997) has had the role of System Research Consultant at Advocate Health Care since March 2004. While at DePaul, he instructed undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory disciplines for the Department of Biological Science, and tutored student-athletes for the Athletic Department. Prior to his employment at Advocate Health Care, Mr. Basobas worked as a Clinical Research Coordinator/Clinical Assistant for the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute. In that position, he honed his clinical research skills coordinating investigator initiated and sponsored studies, writing protocols, abstracts and manuscripts, creating presentations for national and international conferences, producing marketing and promotional materials, and designing a website. He was lead author in an article in the peer reviewed journal Spine (October 2003). In addition to his skills as a researcher, Mr. Basobas also possesses vast and varied clinical experience. He has worked as a Medical Assistant/Medical Technician in a variety of disciplines including orthopaedics, oncology, cardiology, medicine, and pediatrics. In those positions, his responsibilities included administering and conducting stress tests, electrocardiograms, pulmonary function test, bone radiography, Doppler flow studies, phlebotomy, casting, and patient education and advocacy. In his current position of System Research Consultant, Mr. Basobas incorporates his skills as an educator, researcher, and clinician to support the educational requirements of residents and nurses in the Advocate Health Care system, and to provide assistance throughout the budget and contract process for clinical trials. He is a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) through the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA).
