Leigh Schulz is an associate in Milbank's Tokyo office and a member of the Firm's Global Project Finance Group.
Leigh advises both borrowers and lenders on a range of project finance, property finance and corporate finance transactions. He is currently representing Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ Ltd., BNP Paribas and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation in connection with the financing of the expansion of a coal-fired power project in central Indonesia.
Leigh's other recent representations include acting for: a major Australian mining corporation in its participation in an iron ore joint venture in Western Australia; a consortium comprised of eight international and domestic banks in relation to standstill arrangements for an Australian listed property trust; and a major Australian bank in connection with a syndicated facility for an international hotel group.
Before joining Milbank, Leigh worked as a senior associate at Allens Arthur Robinson in Melbourne where he acted on a variety of banking and finance transactions. Prior to that, he was with Linklaters in Hong Kong and Shanghai where he specialized in banking advisory, foreign direct investment and M&A transactions.
Leigh is dual qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales and as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria, Australia. He received his Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Melbourne and also received a Diploma in Modern Languages with a specialization in Chinese from the same university. He is highly proficient in both written and spoken Mandarin and completed advanced Chinese language training at Peking University.
