He has extensive experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret and unfair competition litigation. In addition, he regularly counsels clients in the acquisition, licensing and protection of intellectual property rights. As a registered patent attorney with a degree in chemical engineering, Mr. Huffaker also prosecutes patent applications before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.Representative Cases:Represented the plaintiff in a dispute over the ownership of a process patent, winning his client ownership of the patent plus over $1.25 million in damages and attorneys' fees. In a pro bono criminal matter, Mr. Huffaker won his client - an inmate serving a life without parole sentence for nonviolent crimes - a reduced sentence making him eligible for parole. Months later, Mr. Huffaker successfully argued that the Board grant his client parole. Represented an individual inventor in a patent dispute against a publicly traded environmental services company, negotiating a favorable license agreement on behalf of his client. Won a $27 Million jury verdict in a three-week trial for software company Group 8760, LLC in a trade secrets and intentional interference with contract case -- one of the largest verdicts ever obtained in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County. Represented the plaintiff, an engineering and research firm in the defense industry, in a trademark and unfair competition action, obtaining a favorable settlement.
