Mr. Barty graduated with honors from the Duke Law School, where he was an editor of the Duke Law Journal. He has been with Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP since 1973, specializing in employment and labor matters. Mr. Barty has broad experience in employment litigation in both the federal and state courts. He has defended employers in matters involving such legal topics as race, sex and age discrimination; religious discrimination cases involving reasonable accommodation problems, breach of employment contract; sex harassment; and breach of no competition agreements. Mr. Barty has been the chief spokesman in over 100 sets of labor negotiations, and has defended employers in litigation involving labor contracts and relations, strikes and other employment issues. He has extensive experience in administrative proceedings before a myriad of regulatory agencies, including the National Labor Relations Board, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, the Wage and Hour Division of the Department of Labor, EEOC and similar state civil rights agencies. Mr. Barty has presented well over 100 cases in labor arbitrations. He has represented management in union elections, developing campaign strategies and tactics. Mr. Barty is admitted to practice before the courts of Ohio, federal courts in Ohio, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is active in Bar Association and industrial organizations, and has been a speaker in many seminars involving employment and labor relations. Mr. Barty has been listed in the 2003-2008 editions of The Best Lawyers in America and has been named an Ohio Super Lawyer by Cincinnati Magazine and Law & Politics magazine. |
