Mr. Cafero practices in the areas of alternative dispute resolution and mediation. He brings to his practice a background in conflict management and has assisted numerous parties that have competing interests. This experience includes more than 20 years in a leadership role as a public official, where he represents diverse constituencies, works to build consensus and moves diverse groups toward common goals. Mr. Cafero also has experience in real estate law, commercial real estate development and administrative law.
In January 2007 Mr. Cafero was sworn in as the new Republican Leader of the Connecticut House of Representatives. Mr. Cafero has been appointed to several special tasks forces throughout his tenure in the legislature, including the Worker’s Compensation Reform task force, UCONN 2000 and the Educational Improvement Panel to address issues from the historic Sheff vs. O’Neil Supreme Court decision. He is also a former part-time Professor of Business Law at Norwalk Community College.
Mr. Cafero has been an Attorney since 1982. Prior to Brown Rudnick, he was a Partner at Reid and Cafero, a partnership he formed with Donald Reid in 1985 through 1998. Mr. Cafero was a Member of the Norwalk Board of Education from 1987 to 1993 and served three years as its Chairman (1988, 1991 & 1992). In 1992 he was elected to the Connecticut General Assembly as a Republican State Representative from the 142nd district and was recently elected to his eighth term.
