Laurence Watkins, M.D. Medical Advisory Board, Age 59 Dr. Watkins, a Cardiologist, was with Martin Memorial Health Systems from April 1996 to September 2000 and with Healthy Heart Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida, since October 2000, where he is Director of Medical Office Cardiology. He is a medical graduate of McMaster University, and completed postgraduate training in internal medicine at McGill University, McMaster University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar at the University of North Carolina, completing a Master’s Degree in Public Health with research in epidemiology. He completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of North Carolina. Later, he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta before entering private practice in 1985. He has been a consultant to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. He served as a Member of the Coordinating Committee of the National Cholesterol Education Program for ten years. He has published numerous articles and book chapters in the areas of hypertension, dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease in African-Americans and has lectured widely on these subjects. He is a fellow of The American College of Cardiology, The American College of Physicians and The Royal College of Physicians of Canada. |
