Larry has more than 20 years of leadership and operational management experience throughout the healthcare delivery and payor sectors. He works with clients in directing operations improvement assessment and implementation projects. Larry has served as Chief Financial Officer of several acute care hospitals as primary strategist and business development leader for a regional multi-hospital system and as CEO of a multi-state health plan. His experience has given him a broad interdisciplinary perspective to drive sustainable enterprise-wide improvement.
Professional Experience
Prior to joining Huron Larry was a Principal at Wellspring Partners now a Huron Consulting Group Practice. Previously he served as Senior Vice President for Premier Inc. a national group purchasing and healthcare informatics enterprise where he led a team to work with Premier's 1 500 hospital members to both reduce the costs of supplies and provide clinical and operation benchmarking information to drive performance improvement. Before that Larry was a health system executive leading strategy business development and managed care activities.
Representative examples of Larry's engagement experience include:
Partnered with the CEO of a 290-bed hospital in the Midwest to lead transformational change enterprise-wide. Results included developing an improvement plan that was compelling enough to the Rating Agencies that the Hospital retained its A+ rating despite its (5)% operating margin run-rate loss. Once completed the turnaround plan yielded over $12M in annualized implemented savings that were validated.
Served as Engagement Leader for a four-hospital system in the Northeast seeking significant non-labor expense reductions. Results included over $11M in implemented annualized savings.
Led a major financial and operational turnaround of a 150 000 member provider-sponsored health plan in the Northwest; served as its CEO and Board Chair. Results included a reversal of a $7M loss within a year.
Served as Corporate Initiative Leader in the development of a new enterprise-wide strategy deployment system for a national healthcare organization. The initiative aligned the system's goals across the organization and served as a catalyst for significantly accelerating operational performance. Consultants assisting the organization in its pursuit of the Malcolm Baldrige Award cited the strategy deployment system as a national best practice.
