Laura has made a career of providing closely-held firms with practical analyses, gentle advice, and consistent management. For the last 15 years, she has worked in the classic small company role of "whatever it takes" to bring client companies up to the next level. Most recently, as CFO of Dare Mighty Things, a Portsmouth-based consulting firm that develops and supports social programs for the federal government, Laura oversaw the growth of the company by a factor of four during her three-year tenure. Laura implemented important systems that permitted such growth, including acquiring a GSA MOBIS contract, securing over $10 million in GSA schedule business through the Department of Defense, negotiating and managing the opening of a Washington, DC satellite office, and providing proposal development support that led to the acquisition of an additional $3 million contract from the Department of Health and Human Services. Her portfolio at DMT included human resources, information technology, finance, and contract management. Prior to DMT, Laura was a financial analyst at an investment banking firm where she was responsible for preparing complex financial analyses and models as well as private placement materials. Laura also served as a CPA at Howe, Riley and Howe in Manchester, NH. In all these settings, she focused on providing clients and employers with sophisticated financial analyses that allowed them to evaluate business processes, investment opportunities, and financing strategies. Whether the next step was to halt a downward spiral or choose the best route to growth, clients have remarked on Laura's ability to make insightful analyses and explain their rationale in ways for management to grasp and act on. Laura is licensed as a CPA in New Hampshire and holds a master's degree in Finance from Boston College. While her current business activities are a long way from her undergraduate endeavors (she earned a B.A. in history and art from Williams College), the analytical spirit learned there has served her well in life. When not pursuing the arts of global financial analysis, Laura enjoys time at the barn with her daughter and their pony. |
