C. Lars Mouritsen is chief scientific officer and director of laboratory operations for Sorenson Genomics, a pioneering laboratory whose mission is to provide global leadership in quality genetic testing services for the purpose of verifying human identity and relatedness. In this capacity, he directs all technical aspects of the laboratory and oversees research & development within the organization. Mr. Mouritsen has extensive experience overseeing the development, validation and implementation of laboratory testing methods using genetics, including methods and technologies pertaining to diagnostics and human identity. He also has significant experience in molecular sequencing, a highly specialized form of genetics that enables scientists to study DNA one molecule at a time. In the aftermath of the 26 December 2004 tsunami in Thailand, Mr. Mouritsen led his highly trained staff of forensic scientists, doctors and laboratory specialists in the utilization of effective, comprehensive methods for testing and identifying victims of this recent mass disaster. Sorenson Genomics was one of the few US organizations involved in the genetic identification and testing of tsunami victims. Using the latest genetic testing methods, the team at Sorenson Genomics was able to extract and analyze DNA from some of the most difficult cases related to the tsunami. Mr. Mouritsen has also actively assisted Thailand's Central Institute of Forensic Science (CIFS, the equivalent of CSI in the US) in establishing programs and protocols for identifying missing persons. Mr. Mouritsen holds a BS in genetics from the University of Utah. He has been certified as a Specialist in Immunology by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists, and is certified as a Laboratory Specialist in Molecular Biology by the National Certification Agency. He has over 12 years experience in molecular pathology, diagnostics, population genetics, laboratory automation and DNA extraction methods. Mr. Mouritsen has published numerous research articles and studies in academic journals and trade publications, and is a frequent invited speaker and presenter at scientific and genealogical conferences |
