Larry Weis joined the District as its General Manager and Chief Executive Officer on July 5, 2000. Under the policy-setting guidance of the District’s elected Board, he directs the day-to-day operations of the District’s extensive irrigation water storage and delivery system, as well as the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity within a 662 square-mile service area in Central California.
Reporting to Mr. Weis are six Assistant General Managers with business unit responsibility in water resources and regulatory affairs, power supply, consumer services, financial services, engineering and operations, and human resources. In all, he oversees a staff of 474 full time employees, gross annual revenues in excess of $199 million and assets of more than $300 million in 2002.
Mr. Weis has 26 years of experience in the electric and water utility business. He began his professional career with four years at the Boeing Corporation, followed by ten years with the Snohomish Public Utility District in Washington State where he worked in supervisory and senior management roles in electric utility operations. In 1990 he was hired as General Manager and CEO of the Pend Oreille Public Utility District in eastern Washington State, a post he held for ten years prior to his selection by the Turlock Irrigation District after a nationwide search.
Mr. Weis has considerable experience in utility technical operations, finances, regulatory issues and organizational leadership. Over the years, he has served on the boards of numerous state and national professional organizations. In 2003 he served as president of the Northwest Public Power Association. A Seattle native, Mr. Weis was raised in central Washington State and graduated in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Western Washington University. |
