Mr. Echelberger is senior vice president of Major Downstream Projects for Marathon Petroleum Company LLC. Born in Los Angeles, California, Mr. Echelberger was raised in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He graduated from Idaho State University in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry.
Mr. Echelberger joined Marathon Oil Company in 1967 as a research scientist in Littleton, Colorado. Throughout his career he held numerous engineering and managerial positions with Marathon before being named manager of the Eastern Pipe Line Division in 1988. The following year he was appointed manager of the Michigan Refining Division. In 1995 he was named manager of the Louisiana Refining Division, a position he held until being named senior vice president of Refining in 2001.
On January 1, 2007, he was appointed senior vice president of Major Downstream Projects. In this new role, Mr. Echelberger will have responsibility for execution of the Garyville Major Expansion, and the feasibility and engineering design for the potential Catlettsburg and Detroit Heavy Oil Upgrading Projects.
Mr. Echelberger serves on the Executive Committee and the Board of Directors of the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association, and is a member of the American Chemical Society and the 25-Year Club of the Petroleum Industry. Over the span of his career, he has completed several management programs, including the Darden Executive Program at the University of Virginia and Northwestern University's advanced management course. |
