Mr. Bacon is the Chief Information Officer for Cogent Communications, a publicly traded, facilities-based Internet access provider. He has overseen acquisitions of seven companies in North America and Europe during the past three years, including LambdaNet (France & Spain), Aleron, Carrier1, and Verio’s Internet access business. He is also responsible for product introductions at Cogent, and most recently has managed the rollout of both the Native Layer2 Ethernet and Managed Security service offerings in North America.
Based in Washington, D.C., Mr. Bacon has spent his entire career in the Internet and telecom space. Most notably, he founded Fiber Network Solutions, one of the original Internet backbone companies, in 1996. Mr. Bacon was CEO of the company and managed its substantial growth before selling the company to Cogent Communications in 2003. In 2000, he was recognized by Ernst & Young as a Finalist in the "Entrepreneur of the Year." |
