Professional Experience
Mr. Weissmuller´s practice is focused on environmental litigation and compliance. He practices in federal and state courts and his matters include a wide spectrum of environmental laws and regulations, including Superfund, waste, air and water matters. He also specializes in defending citizen suit cases, particularly under California´s Proposition 65, the Federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and California´s Unfair Competition Law. In this capacity he represents a wide range of industry clients, including energy, oil, chemical and aerospace concerns and industry trade groups.
Mr. Weissmuller frequently advises clients in transactions involving contaminated properties, remediation strategies and on environmental compliance issues. He also regularly advises clients on compliance with the California Hazard Communication Standard and California´s unique Proposition 65 occupational and environmental warning requirements.
Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Weissmuller served as a trial attorney in the Environmental Enforcement Section of the United States Justice Department in Washington, D.C., where he was responsible for cases involving various federal environmental statutes. He also served in the justice department´s Office of Intelligence Policy and Review.
Mr. Weissmuller lectures frequently on environmental law. He is a contributing author to Matthew Bender´s Environmental Law Practice Guide, a multi-volume treatise on federal and state environmental laws and regulations. He has also published articles analyzing the impact of Proposition 65 on the California business community.
Mr. Weissmuller is a former law clerk to the Honorable Robert M. Parker, then United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Texas.
