Kurt M. Berger is an attorney in the firm's Electrical/Mechanical Practice Group. His practice includes preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the electrical, computer, medical imaging, and bioinformatic arts, as well as work on patent interferences. He also has experience in prosecuting patent applications related to mobile communication systems and optical disc systems, as well as drafting claims to cover industry standards in these technologies. Prior to joining the firm he was an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Ohio State University. He also has four years of engineering experience as a Member of the Technical Staff at Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, Massachusetts, specializing in the area of intelligent control systems.
Dr. Berger received his Law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, with a specialization in partial differential equations, from the University of Wisconsin, where his research was supported by the National Science Foundation. He received a M.S. in Systems Engineering, a B.S. in Computer Engineering, and a B.A. in Economics, summa cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University.
Dr. Berger is admitted to the Virginia State Bar and is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He has numerous publications in the areas of intelligent control systems, nonlinear wave propagation, and computational methods. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the American Bar Association (ABA).
