Kumar Paul is an associate in the Tax Department of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the New York office. He advises U.S. and foreign multinational corporations in the fields of inbound and outbound tax planning; international reorganizations; cross border mergers and acquisitions; cross border financing and repatriation; divestitures and unwinding of joint ventures; international leasing and captive insurance structures. He also has extensive experience in managing and implementing complex multi country tax structuring projects.
Prior to joining McDermott, Kumar was a tax manager in the international tax services practice of a Big Four accounting firm.
Kumar has also served as General Counsel and Head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Sri Lanka; Senior State Counsel in the Department of the Attorney General of Sri Lanka, in which capacity he litigated extensively on behalf of the government in a variety of civil and criminal matters both in the original and appellate courts; a member of the Executive Committee and the vice-chair of the Emerging Markets Committee of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO); a member of the Public Enterprises Reform Commission of Sri Lanka; a member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board; and Resident Adviser to the Securities Commission of Ghana.
Kumar is admitted to practice in New York and Sri Lanka.
