Kinney Johnson has been in the venture capital business since 1984. As a founding partner of Capital Health Venture Partners, Johnson was involved in approximately 25 early-stage, life science/healthcare start-ups through the American Healthcare Funds I and II. In 1995, Johnson became a founding partner of Sequel Venture Partners, a Boulder, Colorado-based venture firm specializing in start-up technology companies in the information technology, telecom, and healthcare sectors. Sequel has invested in 45 start-ups, and currently manages more than $400 million in three funds. In 1973, Johnson and two partners founded Fischer Imaging Corporation (OTC: FIMG). This venture grew from $1 million in revenue and 10 employees to become a highly profitable public company in the diagnostics imaging industry with revenue of $75 million and in excess of 560 employees. During his tenure as president of Fischer, Johnson was active in the acquisition of other companies, the management of a European subsidiary, the structuring of a leveraged buyout, and subsequent venture capital restructuring of the company. Johnson received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and business administration from Augsburg College in 1965, and a master's degree in mathematical computer science from University of Iowa in 1969, where he was the recipient of a joint grant from the American College Testing Company and the IBM Corporation. |
