Kevin Winston joined the Falcons after spending five seasons with the New York Jets in a similar role. Winston works with the players, coaches and front office staff in the implementation of club's player development program. Some of his responsibilities include helping players with career counseling, financial and family matters, internships and post-football career options. Winston also serves as a player liaison to management on professional and personal issues.
He is the only person in the NFL who will have a dual role and share his expertise with the players of the Georgia Force in the player development area. Under his direction, Falcons University is now a year-round program with workshops, seminars and a full menu of services available to the organization for the first time.
During his stint in New York, Winston was honored by the NFL by winning the "most outstanding player development department" in 2003-04. His programs also helped to earn him the Winston-Shell Award for innovation and commitment to player development in 2001-02. With the Jets, he helped to create a veterans committee of players that worked together to improved the workplace. Winston began in the League with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he spent four seasons. Kevin's older brother, Lamonte, is a veteran member of the Kansas City Chiefs front office and was the NFL's first director of player development 12 years ago.
Before he started in the NFL, Winston worked at The Seneca Center for emotionally-challenged adolescents in San Francisco and San Leandro. He graduated from Indiana with a degree in physical education in 1988.
He and his wife, Dana, have one son, Matthew Kevin. |
