Dr. Ong's area of expertise is product design evaluation and failure analysis of medical devices and orthopaedic implants with a focus on evaluating how patient surgical and design factors influence performance. He also has expertise in nonlinear finite element analysis solid mechanics and orthopaedic biomechanics. He has experience with orthopaedic and diagnostic medical devices from product liability intellectual property regulatory (FDA) compliance product development and technology assessment perspectives. Dr. Ong has directed preclinical mechanical testing experiments of bone and soft tissue to evaluate and characterize biomaterials and medical devices. His research interests include investigating the failure mechanisms of hip knee and spine implants as well as evaluating the efficacy of novel implant designs. He has also examined the epidemiology and health economics of primary and revision total hip and knee replacements as well as the treatment of spinal disorders such as spine fusion. Dr. Ong is also a reviewer for the Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research Clinical Medicine & Research Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Acta Biomaterialia Medical Engineering and Physics Journal of Arthroplasty Journal of Testing and Evaluations and Arthritis Care and Research. |
