Dr. Zeitler graduated from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. He completed his internship and residency programs at New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts before completing a fellowship in Hematology Oncology and a fellowship in Clinical Coagulation at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Over the past 23 years, Dr. Zeitler has been caring for and treating patients in the triangle area. During this time he has served as a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at UNC (1984-1994), while participating in numerous medical associations. Some of Dr. Zeitler's affiliations include: member of the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Division of the American Cancer Society (1991-1993); member of the Board of Directors of the Wake County Unit of the American Cancer Society (1982-1990, President 1988-1990); board officer of Wake county Society of Intern Medicine (1988-1992, President 1991-1992); and founding member of the Southern Association for Oncology. Currently Dr. Zeitler is the Vice-President for the Eastern NC Chapter of the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society Board of Directors.
Other notable professional positions held by Dr. Zeitler at Rex Hospital include President of the Medical Staff (2001); Chairman of the Medical Executive Committee (2001-2002); Chairman of the Transfusion Committee (1988-1989); Chairman of the Oncology Service Line Committee (1997-2000); Chairman of the Cancer Care Committee (1997-1999); and Co-Medical Director of the Rex Cancer Center (2005-present).
Dr. Zeitler has received the "Best Doctors in America" award for the last four years (2002-2005).
