Keith M. Stolte is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Chicago office. He is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, where his practice focuses on trademark, copyright, unfair competition and false advertising counseling, prosecution and litigation. He also has engaged in significant patent litigation.
Keith has represented clients in diverse fields, including manufacturers of a wide variety of goods, health-care providers, management consulting firms, financial services providers, universities, software developers, internet e-commerce businesses and restaurant and entertainment companies.
Keith began his career in the intellectual property field as the Intellectual Property Administrator for the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company where he oversaw and maintained the company's portfolio of over 6,000 trademark applications and registrations and 1,000 patents and patent applications worldwide, as well as counseled senior management and various company departments on trademark, patent and copyright matters. In private practice, Keith has represented certain trademark, unfair competition and copyright interests for such clients as Harvard University, RJR Tobacco Company, the Goodrich Company, Conseco, Inc., World Championship Wrestling, Mastercard, Inc., Visa, Inc., Avon Products, Office Depot, Inc., Adolph Coors, The Absolut Company, Ian Schrager Hotels, LLC and Westell Technologies, Inc.
Keith is the author of numerous published articles relating to trademark law including: "Functionality Challenges to Incontestable Trademark Registrations Before and After the Trademark Law Treaty Implementation Act", 92 Trademark Reporter 1094 (2002); "Avoiding Hague Convention Headaches -- An Analysis of Lanham Act Section 1(e)", 92 Trademark Reporter 1417 (2002); "Of Dog food and Judicial Ethics: Clarence Thomas' Decision in Alpo Petfoods, Inc. v. Ralston-Purina Co." (publication pending).
While in law school, Keith was a member of the John Marshall Law Review Executive Board and Moot Court. He is admitted to practice at the Illinois Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. He is a member of the Brand Names Education Foundation.
