KC Counts is a fourth generation El Pasoan who attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. She began her career in broadcasting there while working just about any other job she could find to help make ends meet, such as painting campus buildings and cleaning rooms at the Portales Inn. KC moved on from Sunday mornings at KSEL in Portales to afternoon drive at KKYC in Clovis. She found herself on morning drive at sister station KICA in a short amount of time and decided that’s exactly where she wanted to be, except maybe not in Clovis. KC and her husband Clint moved back home to El Paso where they met as children and she landed on mornings at KATH with Mike McKay after a stint on evenings at KSII. That was 1998 and today, with just a couple of interruptions, Mike and KC continue to entertain audiences with their banter and bickering. During one of those interruptions, KC headed to TV and reported for KVIA in El Paso where she covered everything from high profile trials to neighborhood eyesores. Her time there gave her a new appreciation for deadlines and hairspray and she looks back on the experience with a great deal of satisfaction and remembers everyone there for being very kind and helpful. Her heart, though, is in radio and programming for Bravo Mic Communications has provided a new set of challenges and a new sense of purpose. |
