Kathy is a health care consultant supporting the health law practice group in our Research Triangle Park Office. For more than twenty-two years, she has worked in the health care industry in the areas of finance and planning. She specializes in the areas of strategic planning, business development, reimbursement, regulatory matters and finance. Her clients include hospitals, health care systems and physicians.
Prior to joining the firm, she was an executive with University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, a five-hospital health system affiliated with East Carolina University, where she served as Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Planning and Networking. From 1980 to 1988 Barger was with Ernst & Whinney where she provided audit and consulting services to health care clients.
Representative Matters
Directed the development of a strategic plan for a health system with over 775 beds and 400-member medical staff.
Participated in three health system planning retreats. Facilitated planning sessions and participated in panel discussions regarding health care strategic planning issues.
Developed three medical office building business plans for a health system.
Assisted health system in the development of a trauma center and cardiovascular center strategic plan. Services included data analysis, group facilitation and report preparation.
Facilitated strategic planning discussions for large orthopedic physician group.
Prepared Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) state preemption analysis for a North Carolina hospital system.
Assisted two clients in developing special needs petitions associated with the North Carolina State Medical Facilities Plan.
