Ms. Zarate represents both plaintiffs and defendants in business, real estate, employment and intellectual property litigation. Ms. Zarate’s experience in commercial litigation includes the prosecution and defense of cases involving allegations of breach of contract, business tort, unfair competition, commercial unlawful detainer, and construction defects. Ms. Zarate also has extensive experience in representing California employers concerning a broad range of employment and labor law matters, including employment litigation defense against claims of race, national origin, gender, disability, pregnancy, age and religious discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination and constructive discharge, failure to provide reasonable accommodations, whistle blowing, safety violations, and unpaid wages under a wide range of federal and state employment laws and labor litigation involving claims of unfair labor practices. She has advised clients regarding state and federal wage and hour regulations, anti-discrimination and harassment laws, and HIPAA. Ms. Zarate additionally has represented clients in various intellectual property actions involving claims of trade secret misappropriation and copyright infringement, and she co-authored the article, "Recent Developments in E-Commerce Law," ABA Journal, Winter Edition, 2004. Ms. Zarate was admitted to the California State Bar in 2001. She is also admitted to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. District Courts of the Northern, Southern, Eastern and Central Districts of California. Professional Activities - Ms. Zarate is immediate past President of the Filipino Bar Association of Northern California and is an appointed member of the California State Bar Ethnic and Minority Relations Committee for the 2003-2005 term. Ms. Zarate is a member of the American Bar Association and the Litigation Section of the San Francisco Barrister Club. Ms. Zarate also formerly served as the Vice President of Professional Development of the Filipina Women’s Network and member of the Board of Directors of the Boalt Hall Alumni Association. |
