Karim Faris is a Principal in the technology sector of Atlas Venture and focuses on opportunities in information technology, with emphasis on network infrastructure, software and services. He was previously Director of New Ventures at Level 3 Communications, responsible for evaluating new business and technology opportunities, and has led business development for the company’s softswitch services Prior to Level 3, Karim held various engineering & marketing positions at Intel Corporation, initially on the i486, and later as product manager for the Pentium Processor line, where he focused on the development and marketing of new generations of multimedia enhanced processors. He has also held positions in private equity at Generation Partners and Morgan Stanley. Karim started his career at Siemens as a software engineer working on the first Vehicle Navigation System for BMW. Karim has worked on initiatives across a broad range of industry sectors, including wireless infrastructure and advanced materials, and has published articles on Neural Networks in various industry journals. He worked closely with portfolio company Quantum Bridge, which was acquired by Motorola (NYSE: MOT) in 2004. Karim holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, and a BS in Computer Engineering from Brown University. |
