Named to the 2009 Rising Stars list by Maryland Super Lawyers magazine, Karen N. Shapiro concentrates her practice in business and employment law. Ms. Shapiro advises clients on issues confronting business owners ranging from entity organization to disputes among owners. Well-versed in the area of complex commercial transactions, Ms. Shapiro counsels companies across diverse industries on buying and selling businesses and negotiating commercial contracts. She also works with companies to develop proactive employment policies as well as defend claims asserted by employees. Taking a practical approach to her legal advice, Ms. Shapiro provides business owners useful advice tailored to meet their unique needs.
Ms. Shapiro is proud to serve as Co-Chair of the Washington College of Law GOLD Society, a division of the Myers Society which seeks to connect graduates with the student and alumni community. Throughout her career, she has proactively sought opportunities to educate organizations on key topics that impact business such as entity organization, disputes, and employment matters. The Maryland Society for Accountants, Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, and Montgomery County Medical Society are a few of the organizations that she has addressed.
Ms. Shapiro is originally from Long Island, New York. She received a B.S. degree from Binghamton University, a J.D. degree from the Washington College of Law of the American University, and an M.B.A. from the Kogod School of Business of the American University.
