Karen Charles, PhD, has over 30 years of experience as a practitioner in science and mathematics education and is recognized for her expertise in professional development. Since 1993, Charles has managed the design and delivery of professional development services to mathematics and science educators in a six-state region in the Southeast for a federally funded regional educational laboratory. She has worked in collaboration with national leaders across the U.S. in studying and advancing the relationships between professional development and improved teacher and student performance in the areas of mathematics and science. She has designed and delivered over 100 workshops and presentations for regional and national audiences and has developed numerous tools and materials to support improvement in pedagogical strategies, classroom assessment, and standards-based instruction. Dr. Charles serves in leadership roles in several state and national science professional organizations. |
