Karen C. Hunter is Counsel in Seward & Kissel’s Trusts & Estates group. Ms. Hunter has practiced law since 1981 and joined Seward & Kissel in 2005.
Ms. Hunter specializes in transfer tax planning for high net worth families, including succession planning for family owned businesses. Also, she has directed the creation and administration of numerous charitable organizations, and represents individuals and corporate fiduciaries of trusts and estates.
Ms. Hunter graduated from the University of North Carolina and received a B.A. in 1976 and a J.D. in 1981. She obtained an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law in 1984.
Ms. Hunter is a member of the Bars of New York (both City and State) and Florida. In New York, she is a member of the Trust and Estate Law Section and in Florida, a member of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Sections. She is also on the Committee of Out-of-State Practitioners in Florida. Ms. Hunter is co-author of Reversal of Fortune: The Use of Grantor Trusts in Estate Planning which was published in The Chase Journal, Volume II, issue 4, 1998.
