Karen Hicks has been with Targacept since September 2000. She has responsibility for staffing, employee benefits design and administration, employee relations, EEO/AA, organizational development, and development and implementation of strategic Human Resources programs. She is integrally involved in promoting growth of the biotechnology industry in Winston-Salem’s Piedmont Triad Research Park and the Triad area at large, and has contributed to numerous panel discussions on recruiting and retaining exceptional talent.
Prior to joining Targacept, Karen worked in Human Resources for 25 years at Westinghouse Electric Corporation’s facility north of Winston-Salem. She held positions of increasing responsibility in all aspects of Human Resources at the 1000-person facility until Siemens AG Corporation acquired it in 1998.
While working full-time at Westinghouse, Karen graduated summa cum laude at High Point University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Economics. She is a 1994 graduate of Leadership Winston-Salem and a former Board of Directors member of STEP ONE, a substance abuse services affiliate of the Partnership for a Drug-Free NC, Inc. Karen is also a member of the national Society for Human Resources Management and served on the 2006 Allocations Panel for SmartStart of Forsyth County. She currently is a member of the Business Solutions Advisory Board for the biotechnology industry organization, BIO. |
