Dr. Nicolaou is Professor of Chemistry at the University of California at San Diego, and is Chairman of the Department of Chemistry at the Scripps Research Institute, where he holds the Skaggs Professorship of Chemical Biology and the Darlene Shiley Chair in Chemistry. Dr. Nicolaou is internationally recognized as a leader in the complete synthesis of complex molecules. He is a Member of the New York Academy of Sciences (1987), a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1993) a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, USA (1996), a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (1999), and the recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees. He is the author or co-author of 500 publications, 65 patents (47 issued, 18 pending), and two books, the last entitled Classics in Total Synthesis, written with co-author Erik Sorensen. |
