Following a master’s degree in economics from the University of Heidelberg, Germany, Jürgen Dormann held a series of positions within Hoechst AG, including the post of Chief Executive Officer from 1994 until 1999.
In 1999 he was appointed Chairman of the Management Board of Aventis, and in May 2002 was elected Chairman of the Group Supervisory Board. With the formation of Sanofi-Aventis in 2004 he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Group. A member of the Board of ABB Ltd., Switzerland, since 1998, he served as ABB's Chairman of the Board from 2001 to May 2007, additionally assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer from 2002 to 2004.
