Julie K. Kwon is a partner in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Chicago office. As a member of the Private Client Department, she advises clients on a variety of matters, including estate, gift and generation skipping transfer tax issues, trust and estate administration, contested trust and tax matters, and construction and reformation of wills and trusts.
In 1996, Julie joined the Firm's Private Client Department in Chicago and advised clients regarding a broad range of estate planning issues. In 2001, she became fiduciary counsel for the Midwest Region for Bessemer Trust Company. Most recently, Julie was a national Director in the Wealth Management Group of Bernstein Investment Research & Management which conducts quantitative research integrating investment and wealth transfer analyses.
Julie is a frequent speaker and author on estate planning topics for professional organizations and publications, which have included Trusts & Estates magazine, the Internal Revenue Service, the American Bar Association, the American Law Institute American Bar Association, the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education and various regional organizations.
Julie chairs the Estate and Gift Tax Committee of the American Bar Association, Real Property, Probate & Trust Section. She is also the past co-chair of the Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax Committee and a founding co-chair of the Young Lawyers Network of the Section, and a former delegate to the National Conference of Lawyers & Corporate Fiduciaries from the Section. She is former director, and current member, of the Chicago Estate Planning Council. She is a member of the Chicago Community Trust Professional Advisory Council. She is admitted to the Illinois bar. She received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 1996 and her B.A. with distinction from Stanford University in 1993.
